Stuart Natof's 1910 Avro Triplane

Stuart made this plane to be an outdoor park flyer, but it can be flown indoors as well.

Stuart wanted this plane to be strong enough for pasture landings, and have enough power (speed) to fly back into the wind.  Because the wing loading is 1.53 ounces/ft2, it is also capable of slower flight than most park flyers.  The transmitter is set up to mix the ailerons with the rudder for tight turns.
The 3 wings are each 3 x 24 inches, which gives 1.5 sq ft of wing area.  The all up weight with a 170 mAh battery is 64.4 grams.  The LE and TE of the wings are 0.040 carbon fiber tubing from Peck-Polymers, and the cover (single surface) is 8 micron mylar without temperature sensitive adhesive.  Stuart used 3M 77 spray to adhere the covering.  The white coloring is spray paint.
The powerplant is the Gasparin Potensky 5 watt brushless Wasp motor with the MicroInvent 5030S prop.  This plane uses the MicroInvent MINOR RX, and the MI MBC2 speed controller.  The MicroInvent coil servos used are the MCS3-A for the ailerons, the MCS3 for the rudder, and the MCS2 for the elevator.
